Supply chain management is concerned with the flow of goods and services. It involves the movement and storage of raw materials, work in process inventory and of finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption. Supply chain management as designing, planning, execution, control and monitoring of supply chain activities. The activities in supply chain management(SCM) are associated with warehousing, transportation, packaging etc. Activities in SCM are interconnected required by the customers. Supply chain job has a wide scope in the developed countries. Business Schools have also started focusing on this specialization. The supply chain job is somewhat an interlinked job. Students are now a day’s getting more aware of the supply chain job. Earlier, it was not the same.  Purchasing, Plant Manager, Logistic and Transport Manager, Warehouse Manager are some of the areas where Supply Chain comes into existence and if a person wants to be a successful person or he wants to earn a place in supply chain management, then he needs to take this work professionally.

 Few Job description in Supply chain management is given below.

♦ PURCHASE MANAGER: -    Purchase manager does the job of purchasing, there is various work included in this job. Dealing with goods is an important action that is to be done here. Is responsible at some level for buying or approving the acquisition of goods and services needed by the company. The main aim of a purchase manager is to buy the best quality goods and services at the most competitive prices. There are several other things that a Purchase Manager does. These include - bargaining while purchasing of goods, checking the quality of goods, giving attention to the details of goods, transportation of goods, etc. The purchasing department is for those who are ready to take challenges. Skills required for the same are- Decision making, know led knowledge, communication skills, etc. If a company has skillful Purchasing managers, then it can earn good revenue.


♦ PLANT MANAGER: - Mechanical, production and civil works come under this category.  Plant managers watch over and organize the daily operations of manufacturing plants and similar places. This is a core task done by the plant manager and requires one to go deep. Capital budgeting, P/l accounting are also a part of this category. A plant manager has to take care of the logistics and equipment from time to time. Different companies have different jobs for plant managers. They maintain optimum operation. Plant general manager, line manager are the two main jobs that are almost present in every company. Plant managers are the last line of defense for quality control when the manufactured product leaves the plant. Skills required for the same are- Decision making, domain knowledge, communication skills, etc.


♦ LOGISTIC AND TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT: -  It is also an important area of the supply chain management. Here, costing of transport, fuel, other charges are taken care of. The Transport Manager is responsible for the proper condition of the transport vehicles, equipped with latest techniques such as GPS tracker as it is beneficial. Transport management is concerned with timely transportation and increase in perfect orders. The logistic manager should be well versed with the quality, quantity, cost, and efficacy. He should be aware of the routes that would be suitable for transport, etc. packaging also comes under the logistics. The packaging of materials and safe disposal is also the work done by movers and packers. Logistics enables to reduce costs and increase profitability.  Skills required for the same are - Decision making, domain knowledge, communication skills etc. Transport Managers will also be responsible for buying and the usage of vehicles which are with the company. ♦ WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT: - Proper storage of goods before the delivery is a crucial factor. We need to procure goods in proper and safe condition till the time of its delivery. Warehouse Management is also an important part of the supply chain management. It is a subpart of the Logistic and Transport Management. Here, monitoring of Health and safety pattern in a warehouse, staff training issues, setting objectives is done. Skills required for the same are- Decision making,domain knowledge, communication skills, etc.
