Course Outline of Green Belt certification in six sigma

1. Introduction

We invest the first 90 minutes in the introduction. The definition and the history of quality is brushed up. We discuss the concepts of VOC (Voice of customers), VOB (Voice of business), and VOE (Voice of employees) which will be followed by a question and answer round.

2. Define

We put the next 240 minutes to develop the project charter and discuss the voice of the customer. In the context of the voice of the customer, three other topics are also discussed. The KANO model, developed by Professor Noriaki Kano, is important for the development of products and keeping the customer satisfied.

An affinity diagram, which is useful to organize language data and gauge the natural relationships between them, is also considered. Next is the Critical to process (CTP) and Critical to delivery (CTD) concepts. We explain the definition of mapping the value stream.

3. Measurement

Next, the program uses the critical processes of measurement. We explain all different types of measurements. Different data types are introduced. Brainstorming techniques and the understanding unit, opportunity and defect are up next.

Afterwards, we explain the data collection method, definition of sampling and different kinds of sampling. MSA (Measurement System Analysis) explanation includes GAGE R&R and introduction to ANOVA. The measurement unit is concluded with the discussion of statistical process control. This unit takes up 240 minutes.

4. Analyze

We call the next unit “analyze”. It takes up 300 minutes. The first topic is establishing process capability. This includes distributions, descriptive statistics, process capability for Normal and Non-normal data, Introduction to Pareto, Box-plot, Stratification, and statistical analysis.

Eventually, comes some of the basic concepts in statistics, i.e. correlation and regression and hypothesis testing. Explanation of hypothesis testing will also include the topics of P values, 2 sample T-test, ANOVA, homogeneity of variance and chi-square distributions.

5. Improve

We call the next unit as “Improve” that takes up to 360 minutes. The first part of this unit is about generating select solutions. This includes brainstorming, DOE (Design of Experiments) and CBM (Criteria Based Matrix). The upcoming part is concerned with refining solutions. And this includes FMEA (Failure Moses Effective Analysis) and error proofing. Next are test solutions and pilot planning. The final topic is the verification of results.

6. Control

We call the next unit “Control”. This would need 210 minutes. The first topic is the process control system. All related concepts to determining process capability and sustaining the improvement are considered. The next topic is the determination of process capability. In other words, this brings about the concepts of hypothesis testing- ANOVA, 2 sample T-test, Chi-square tests. Subsequently, we explain the control plan. 5 Cs, correction loop, mistake proofing, and statistical process control are all explained.
