What is Physics?

Physics is another branch of science along with chemistry. Physics and chemistry as important subjects of science stream. If you have taken a science stream that means you have to study physics as a subject. You have no choice. So how to learn physics?

For once you can give up mathematics and opt for computers in its place. But you cannot give up chemistry and physics. Science is incomplete without them. How to learn chemistry and physics is a question which plagues most of the students today.

Physics is an Ancient Greek word which means “Knowledge Of Nature”.

We can define physics as a branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics includes mechanisms of heat, light and other radiations, sound, electricity, magnetism and the structure of atoms.

Physics also makes significant contributions through advances in new technologies that led to new developments and that arise from theoretical breakthroughs. There are quite a few tools that have come from advances in technology and science as the result of the works of a physicist. A person who studies physics is known as physicists.

Importance of Physics

Studying physics is not only important just because it is a branch of science and you cannot do away with it. Physics is the basis for other sciences such as oceanography, seismology, and astronomy. So from this point of view also, studying physics becomes important.

The study of physics is important for students who wish to take up engineering as a subject and want to become engineers. Engineering is all about physics. You cannot do without it and you cannot be an engineer if you do not the physics. Engineering and physics are inseparable from each other.

Any kind of engineering be it mechanical, chemical and many more involves physics. It may be different in each kind of engineering but it is there and it is important. So learn it if you want to become an engineer.

Physics deal with wires, heat, energy, pressure, force and many more items to be included. These all substances like heat, energy are very much present in our surroundings and have a role to play in our daily lives. Don’t you think?

Somewhere or the other we use them. So, therefore, physics has application and importance in our daily lives as well. So to be familiar with all these concepts and their working, nature we must all know about physics. It is essential.

Relevance of physics

If you know physics and concepts of heat, wire fascinates you. You must learn about physics. If you even know certain concepts of physics and principles of heat and energy, you can very well apply it in your daily lives.

You can solve petty problems related to wire issues, short circuits, starting of the water pump motor. It is very useful and you do not have to depend on electricians and other mechanics for small works.

As you move to higher classes like 11th and 12th, physics becomes difficult. It is a tough subject.when you studied physics at your lower standard, it might seem to be an interesting and easy subject.

But it becomes challenging as you move at the higher levels in your education. It is although the more difficult and tough in your graduation and post-graduation. So bug up and be ready to learn physics.

Tips on how to learn physics

1. Build a strong Base

Build a strong base of physics right from the start in your lower classes. At lower levels, it is easier and you can very well understand and have a grip on the subject. It will help you later. Quit mugging up and start understanding the concepts.

2. Refer and read multiple textbooks

This will help you to understand better and you might get to know about some information that is missing in one book. In this way, you will know the best book to refer to for quick learning.

3. Master your maths

If you are studying physics, it involves a lot of mathematical elements so you need to master maths as a subject first and then move on to master physics.

4. Ask questions

The more you ask, the better you are. It opens your mind and helps in better understanding. Not only ask questions about the concept that you are not clear but also question and cross-question what is being taught to you. The reason and logic behind those. Please ask relevant questions.

5. Learn

Learn all the formulas, equations, theories, the law very well and also their usage, when and where and why. They are the base to solve the question. You must know them very well.

6. Physics problem looks difficult at first sight

Take your time and solve it carefully and patiently. After solving, take a look at it, analyze to understand that what have you done and what is done is right.

7. Practice diagrams

In physics, diagrams are important. They substantiate your answer and you can also explain a questioning them. So make proper, accurate diagrams with headings

8. Know measurements

You should know every unit, measurements, and power like Cm, m, etc. Their correct usage is important. Marks can be deducted if the unit is not measured. Make a note of it.

9. Practice

This is the key. Practice will only help you to master the subject. Practice as much as you can – questions, theories, diagrams, and everything.
